Washington Square Park Dog Halloween Costume Contest
The Washington Square Park Conservancy's annual dog costume contest returns to Garibaldi Plaza. No registration required this year — just get your pup in costume and line up (line opens 9:30 AM; be in line by 10:30 AM to compete). Free to watch and enter.
Muddy Paws Rescue Block Party
Muddy Paws Rescue takes over a full block of Hell's Kitchen for its annual fall street fair — same-day dog and cat adoptions, on-the-spot dog portraits, local pet vendors, food and drink, and a dog costume contest. Free to attend; leashed, friendly dogs welcome.
36th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade
Billed as the world's largest dog parade, now in its 36th year. Costumed pups parade south along Avenue B, plus a costume contest and a Festival Block on East 6th St between Aves B & C (10 AM–4 PM). Spectating is free — find a spot along Avenue B around 10–10:30 AM.
ASPCA Adopt-A-Boo Dog Adoption Event
The ASPCA Adoption Center's Halloween adoption drive runs daily noon–5 PM from Oct 17 through Nov 1. Adopters of medium and large dogs get a waived adoption fee plus a Subaru tote of dog goodies, a week of food, and a leash and engraved ID tag. Walk-ins welcome; registration encouraged.
